What is orthostatic pressure?

Orthostatic pressure, also known as orthostatic hypotension, is the drop in blood pressure that occurs when someone stands up from a lying or sitting position.

This drop in pressure can cause dizziness, weakness, or even fainting, due to the temporary insufficient blood flow to the brain.

Orthostatic pressure is a normal bodily response to a change in position, but in some cases, it can become excessive and cause the symptoms mentioned above. When a person stands up, gravity affects blood circulation, and the body needs some time to adjust and compensate for this change by increasing blood pressure and ensuring smooth blood flow.

In some individuals, especially the elderly or those with heart problems, this adjustment may be slower, resulting in symptoms of orthostatic pressure. If the symptoms are frequent or severe, it is important to seek medical advice to assess the condition and find ways to manage blood pressure.
